About this game

587 Squadron Advance turns a high-speed bombing mission into a compact Game Boy Advance action game. You fly deep into enemy territory to disrupt communications, damage transport infrastructure, disable warships, and reach a secret weapons facility. The mission is presented through a ZZT-style world, so the pilot appears as a tiny white smiley moving through an ASCII-like battlefield rather than as a conventional aircraft sprite.

The project is a demake of Epic's 1993 game Zone 66, rebuilt as a ZZT world and made playable on GBA through asie's OpenZoo/C++ work. That route gives it a mixture of fast arcade movement, DOS-era visual language, and handheld controls. The official page estimates a session at about an hour and recommends learning the movement in Easy mode before attempting Normal.

The small player marker and limited contrast demand attention when the screen becomes busy. If the aircraft suddenly stops, a moving object may be blocking its path; press a direction again to resume. Directional arrows can also push the smiley out of position, but you can move it back and continue.

Quick tips

Begin in Easy mode so you can learn how the small player marker and aircraft movement behave before switching to Normal.

If the aircraft stops unexpectedly, press a direction again; a moving object may be blocking its route.

Watch for directional arrows that can push the smiley out of position. Move back into place and continue.

Use Start to open the menu and A for the game's sole action input.
