About this game

GB-Wordyl is a five-letter word puzzle designed for Game Boy and Game Boy Color. Move the cursor across the on-screen keyboard, add letters to the current row, and submit a complete guess. The board then marks which letters are correct, which belong elsewhere in the answer, and which are absent. Each result narrows the next guess, so strong play comes from collecting useful information before the final attempts.

Use the arrow keys to move the keyboard cursor. X adds the highlighted letter, Z removes a letter, and Enter submits a full guess. Exact matches can be auto-filled from earlier rows, and Hard mode requires known clues to be reused. The game tracks wins, losses, streak, and win percentage, making short sessions useful even when a particular word is difficult.

Open with a word containing five distinct common letters rather than repeated letters. On the second row, test new letters while repositioning any known misplaced letters. Once three or four positions are fixed, stop maximizing coverage and build only words that can still satisfy every clue. The project also supports multiple dictionary languages through separate ROM builds; this archive entry uses the English build recorded in the source database.

Repeated letters require extra care because a single marked copy does not prove the answer contains another. Use removal and board-cursor controls to correct a row before submitting instead of accepting a weak guess. The options menu exposes statistics, Hard mode, and round controls without crowding the main board. A good streak comes from treating the early rows as evidence gathering and saving narrow, clue-dependent guesses for the final attempts.
