About this game
Tobu Tobu Girl is a 2017 vertical arcade platformer developed for the original Nintendo Game Boy by Tangram Games. The premise is immediate: the heroine's cat is drifting into the sky, so every run moves upward rather than across a conventional side-scrolling level. The small Game Boy screen becomes a route-planning problem. Enemies, gaps, and the edge of the camera determine where the next safe launch point will be.
Three mechanics control the climb. Landing on an enemy produces a high bounce. Holding the boost button spends a limited energy meter to gain extra height. A directional air dash can reach a target or correct a missed approach, but only three dashes are available. Bouncing on an enemy restores all three, while a downward dash can defeat an enemy and recover boost energy. Enemies therefore serve two roles: they can end a run, but they also replenish the movement needed to continue.
A reliable beginner route uses one or two dashes to approach an enemy and keeps the final dash for recovery. Spending all three before confirming the next bounce often leaves no way to correct horizontal drift. Boost is most useful after a bounce, when the character already has upward momentum. Downward attacks are valuable when the boost meter is low, but aiming them poorly can send the character below the visible route. Score improvement comes from linking these decisions with less hesitation, not simply moving faster.
The game uses readable monochrome sprites, short score-focused runs, and an original soundtrack by potato-tan. Its controls and 160-by-144 presentation were designed around real Game Boy limits, while the air-dash system gives it a pace associated with newer platform games. That combination makes Tobu Tobu Girl useful as both a quick arcade challenge and a clear example of modern homebrew built for original hardware.

Quick tips
Press X with a direction to dash. You only have three dashes, so keep one available for correcting a missed bounce.
Hold Z to boost upward, but watch the energy meter and use downward attacks on enemies to recover some boost.
Landing on enemies is usually safer than avoiding them because each bounce restores your dash count.
